record_hash = SHA-256(prev_hash + record). Edit, delete or reorder a record and the chain breaks at exactly that spot.

Check the head hash

GET /api/v1/evidence/verify returns {ok, records, broken_at, head_hash} for any workspace.

What the chain proves: a record has not changed since it was chained. What it cannot prove is that the underlying fact was true — that is the collectors’ job. The chain protects the record, not the reality it describes.
